Monthly stays in Kathmandu

Every place here quotes a monthly rate, not thirty nights added together.

A monthly stay is the usual shape of a stay in the Kathmandu Valley for anyone here to work, study, volunteer or wait out a visa: long enough that a hotel stops making sense, short enough that a year's lease and a furniture run do not. The places on this page are furnished and let on a monthly rate, so the price you see is the price for the month.

What a month gets you that a week does not: a lower rate per night, a kitchen you actually cook in, and usually the option to extend without moving. Utilities, internet and cleaning vary by property and are stated on each listing — ask before you commit rather than assuming, since the convention is not the same across the valley.

Most of our monthly inventory sits in Lalitpur — Jhamsikhel, Sanepa and Kupondole — where the streets are quieter than central Kathmandu and almost everything is walkable. Lazimpat, Baluwatar and Maharajgunj are the equivalent on the Kathmandu side, closer to the embassies, the Teaching Hospital and the international schools.

Common questions

How long is a monthly stay?

A calendar month at the monthly rate, and most owners will extend month to month after that. Stays shorter than a month are quoted nightly or weekly instead — the listing page shows whichever rates that property offers.

Are bills included in the monthly rate?

It depends on the property, so each listing says what its rate covers. Electricity, water, internet and cleaning are the four to confirm before you commit; some owners include all of them, others bill electricity separately.

Is the flat furnished?

Yes. Everything listed here is furnished and ready to live in — bed, kitchen, water and internet — because a monthly stay is not long enough to justify buying furniture.

Do I need a deposit?

Usually, and the amount is set by the owner rather than by us. Agree it in writing along with what it covers and when it comes back, before you move in.
