Lazimpat runs north from the edge of Thamel and is the embassy district: diplomatic missions, long-established hotels, bakeries and quiet side streets, with the noise of the tourist quarter ten minutes behind you. It is the compromise a lot of longer-term visitors settle on — walkable to central Kathmandu, but residential enough to sleep in.
