About Thamel
Thamel is the arrival point for most visitors to Nepal: a knot of pedestrianised lanes packed with trekking shops, agencies, gear rental, bookshops, bars and live music. If you are buying a sleeping bag, booking a permit or looking for a guide, this is where it happens. Loud, bright and extremely convenient. Best for a few nights at either end of a trek rather than a long stay — though the streets just outside it are calmer than their reputation.
